Santalum Album or White Sandalwood is one of the most sought-after fragrant woods in the world, the best type and quality coming from the South of India, Mysore, Karnataka region. The best quality sandalwood is harvested only from trees that are very mature. In the mid 1990s the Indian government imposed a harvest and export ban on Indian grown Santalum Album to protect the population of remaining Chandan trees. This batch of incense was made from vintage Mysore sandalwood indicating the export age of this material to be somewhere about 30 years. This heartwood material is especially hard and takes several days of tedious grinding and sifting to produce a small amount of material fine enough for successful extrusion into stick incense.
Yellow- Meat sandalwood contains a higher amount of oil remaining in its natural oil state. Yellow-Meat has more oil-based volatiles and aromatically is especially sweet with a strong projection of more middle and top notes
